NOVEMBER / The month of the dead In the Christian liturgical calendar, November is entirely devoted to the deceased. That’s why it’s nicknamed the month of the dead. The celebrations are concentrated at the beginning of the month: the 1st being All Saints' Day, a tribute to all the saints, and the 2nd being the Day of the Dead, dedicated to the commemoration of the dead. These festivals are inseparable and are often confused. They complete the three-day cycle - the night before, the party and the next day - that Halloween begins. Since 1921, Canadians have gathered to honor the memory of the women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives or their physical or mental integrity, in the name of an ideal: Canada.
